Snowfall in Shimla 2012

Temperature is dripping down continuously from Delhi to Shimla to Kashmir. Whole of the Northern India has been experiencing temperature below freezing point. A thin blanket of snow has covered the district of Shimla in and around. Life and daily routines has been disturbed because of the heavy Snowfall in Shimla region. All the major highways are closed due to snowfall including NH-22. Nearby tourist places like Mall Road, Ridge, Kufri, Fagu and Narkanda have been covered under the white sheet of snow; making the hill station more beautiful picturesque.

Many tourists who headed to Shimla from Delhi have been stuck in between. Many roads are blocked, traffic on road is disturbed, telephone lines have stuck, Snowfall in Shimla

electricity supply has been hit and even water in the pipe lines has frozen. Current temperature is minus 0.7 and that can be decreased further. This is already the third snowfall of the season in Shimla. More areas like Manali, Lahul, Chamba, Mandi, Dharamshala, Kangra, Rohru, McLeod Ganj, Chail, Dalhousie in the Himachal Pradesh have been witnessed heavy snowfall after many years. Even plain areas like Delhi, Haryana and Punjab are hit by cold waves heavily.

Trains and Road Transport has been affected due to fog and rain. Even Vaishno Devi Yatra in Katra Jammu has been stopped due to heavy snow fall from last 2 days. Jammu – Srinagar National Highway is also closed. Water in Dal Lake has frozen. Snowfall in Shimla has always fascinates tourist and this is because many people pack their bags to Shimla in weekend. Skiing and other winter sports in Shimla have already been started. Weather in Shimla is likely to be remaining the same for many more days according to Weatherman.

Snowfall in Shimla town has already been recorded as 13.3 cm till yesterday. Many buses and cars have been

struck on NH 88. Shimla was likely to get snowfall on Christmas and New Year. But this late snowfall in Shimla has once again hit the hill station by tourists for sightseeing. For heavy tourist season in mind; Northern Railways has started a Holiday Special Toy Train from Kalka to Shimla. This train departs from Kalka at 12.45 pm and arrives at Shimla at 06.30 pm.
