Shimla previously known as “Simla” earlier is one of the oldest & most famous hill stations of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla is 370 kms from Delhi , 117 kms from Chandigarh & 99 kms from Kalka. Shimla is also the capital of Himachal Pradesh. There are many famous places here to explore & Enjoy. Some of them to mention are Christ Church, Summer Hill, Tara Devi Temple & Jakhoo Temple etc. Shimla is also a famous honeymoon destination for Indians & International visitors.
Simla is also known as “Queen of the Hill Stations” because of its natural beauty which comprise dense forests of Pine & Oak , Shimla has an unparalleled climate, Green Hills & valleys. Shimla is also connected to kalka which is connected through railway with major cities like Delhi & Chandigarh. Now I am going to tell you about some remarkable places in Shimla & near by areas which one can not afford to miss while on Trip to Shimla.
Kufri It’s a small place just 13 kilometers from Shimla. It’s a must visit place for tourists to Shimla. There are regular buses from Shimla to Kufri. One can enjoy mule ride. Kufri has many places where one can go for hiking and trekking. The best time to visit Kufri is between April to June and November to February.
Fagu 23 kilometers from Shimla & 3 kilometers from Kufri is a small village for those who want to do nothing. The place is enriched with beautiful fields of Apple & potato. The name Fagu have been derived from word FOG. One can reach here by road from Shimla. Winters are very cool here. The temperature may fall below freezing point, So heavy woolens are required.
Matiana It is 45 kilometers from Shimla. It is also known as Kalinda. Apple orchids are part of beauty of this place. Matiana offers to be one of the most mesmerizing and soul invigorating locations in the lap of nature. Trekking, horse riding, driving, picnics, golfing etc. are popular activities.
Kiarighat It is 27 kilometers from Shimla. Kiarighat is a picturesque place in Solan District. The place is known for its scenic beauty.
Tattapani It is 51 kilometers from Shimla. As the name suggests “tatta pani” means hot water. This place is famous for its hot water springs. A dip into the water of the spring provides relief to the people suffering from joint pains, fatigue or any type of skin disease and hence has got a great medicinal quality. The Hindu temples as well as the Shiv Gufa (Shiva Caves) located at Saraur at a distance of four kilometers from there are also places of utmost interest. Theog It is 32 kilometers from Shimla. Naldehra It is 22 kilometers from Shimla. The blue skies, lush green forests and an occasional rainbow thrown in makes the place look like it has been painted on a canvas. The most famous attraction of Naldehra hill station is the 18 – hole golf course that is considered to be the most challenging golf course.
Mashobra Mashobra is an exceptionally beautiful place. The hilly flora and fauna adds to the exotic beauty of the place. One of the greatest places to visit at Mashobra in Himachal Pradesh is the Goddess Durga temple. The place has an enormous religious importance for not only the people of Himachal Pradesh but also to the tourists.
Chail Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh developed his own summer capital, Chail as he was exiled from Shimla. Chail is just 45 Kilometers from Shimla. The significance of chail is such because it is on a higher Hill than Shimla. Chail has the highest cricket ground in the world. There is also a wild life sanctuary also to see. This place has retained its beauty because there is not much construction in Chail as in Shimla. Chail is for those tourists who want some quite & beautiful place. There are regular buses for Chail from Delhi, Chandigarh & Shimla.
Tara Devi Temple Shimla – It is the most beautiful temple at Shoghi just 10 km away from Shimla.
Barog : Barog is a very small place which is quite cool in summers & occasionally see snowfall in Winters. It is on the Kalka Shimla Highway. One can visit Barog before Shimla if going by road. Barog is just 23 Kilometers away from Kalka. It is approx 300 Kilometers from Delhi. One can step down here if going to Shimla by toy train as Toy train stops here & it has a beautiful Railway Station. Barog also has the longest tunnel through which Toy tarin from Kalka to Shimla passes. Barog is very clean & green. Many Hotels & resorts have also come up there in few time as many tourists are facing towards it. Modern facilities have also developed here like gymnasium, table tennis, billiards, card room, carrom and video games for children.
