Chail is a beautiful hill town cradled in the laps of the snowy mountain of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh. It is located at a distance of forty nine kms from the state capital of Shimla. The serene settlement is adorned by lush green rainy forests, with the coniferous tress like the deodars and pines, soaring and caressing the skyline. It was the former capital of Adhiraj Bhupinder singh, the Maharaja of Patiala.
Chail is perched on three hills – the Rajagarh, Pandhewa and the Sadh Tiba Hills. The Maharaja’s Palace is situated at Rajgarh Hills.
World’s Highest Cricket Ground
Chail boasts of housing the highest cricket ground in the world. It is situated at a height of 2444m. The previous princely state of Patiala owned the playground. The cricket ground is very neatly maintained with the pine and deodar trees forming a scenic backdrop on one side, whilst on the other side you will find the mighty Himalayas, glistening under the morning sun.

Maharaja’s Royal Chail Palace.
Maharaja’s Royal Chail Palace, a heritage structure is a massive and spacious mansion. In the year 1971, the Himalayan state government took over the fortress in its hands and has converted it into a palace hotel. From the spacious rooms of the royal palace, you can have awesome and breath taking view of the snow capped Himalayas as well as the river Sutlej winding through the lush green hills of kasuali & Shimla. The Palace hotel serves as an evocative of the regal splendor. It is spread on seventy five acres. You can find spacious and airy rooms adorned with artifacts and fireplaces. You can find neatly spruced up lawns and fountains adding charm to the royal palace.
Chail Sanctuary is one of the much preferred tourist spots by visitors coming to Chail. The sanctuary is home to animals like leopards, rhesus macaque, crested porcupine, goral. Some of the other animals you can find in this sanctuary are the S?mbhar, barking deer, crested porcupine, goral etc.
Sidh Babha Ka Mandir
Previously this place was the site which the Maharaja planned to build his palatial residence and also commenced building the castle, however one night, in the Maharaja’s dream, a saintly individual appeared in front of him and said that this was the spot where he mediated. As a result Maharaja Bhupinder Singh moved his location and constructed a shrine on the spot.

A few of the popular attractions of this hill station are the Natural park, and the enchanting trek that takes you to the celestial Mahasu peak
The town is located midway between Chail and Kandaghat. The viaduct constructed over the Ashwani stream serves as an ideal picnic spot.
